Instructions Before and After Surgery

P‪re surgery instructions:

‪Zymar eye drops:

Its recommended to use Zymar 24 hours before surgery every 6 hours “4 times”‫.

Instructions after surgery:

Important:

15-30 min interval period between “Zymar & Pred forte ” eye drops..

‪Pred Forte:

• Use it every 6 hours “4 times” daily for two weeks.

• Use it  every 8 hours ” 3times” daily for two weeks.

• Use it every 12 hours ” 2 times” daily for one week.

• Use it every 24 hours ” 1 time” daily for one week then stop using it.

P‪re surgery instructions:

‪Acular Eye drops:

Use it 24 or 48 before day of  surgery as instructed every 6 hours ” 4 times”.

NOTE:

Use it every 6 hours for one week as instructed‫.

Acular Eye drops every 6 hours for one to 4 weeks as instructed.

• Used in first week directly after surgery  every 6 hours “4 times”.

• Then every 8 hours  “3 times”  in second week.

• Then every 12 hours  “two times”  in third week.

• Then every 24 hours “1 time” then stop using it.

Instructions before Cataract surgery:

Important:

Eye cover should be maintained on the eye without applying any eye drops or medication for the eye until the first clinical visit , except in local anesthetic surgeries patient start therapy procedure in home two hours after the surgery.  

 

• Put eye drops as you have been instructed for using them.

• Avoid eating for 4 hours before surgery, and avoid drinking water before 2 hours for the surgery.

• Take a shower before surgery.

Instructions after Cataract surgery:

1. Follow physician’s  instruction strictly.

2. Use eye drops on i time after washing hands.

3. Use eye protection or sun glasses at all  time.

4. Avoid eye rubbing or washing directly with water.

5. Protect your eye away from dust and smoke or places of animals and birds.

6. Be aware not to move a lot after surgery, and not to carry heavy things in the first days.

7. You will be able to watch TV or read after surgery.

8. When having any pain, redness or sudden weakness you must visit the center as soon as possible.

9. Using perfumes or smelling scents doesn’t affect surgery’s result.

10. No diet program for cataract surgery patients, except those who are diabetics.  

11. It’s better not to do “Rukoua , Sujoud ” gestures in the first day of surgery, and ask physician  in the next visit.

12. Be aware of patient fall while moving after surgery.

13. Avoid driving car after surgery because of blurred vision.

P‪re surgery instructions:

‪Zymar eye drops:

Its recommended to use Zymar eye drops two times or more every 4-6 hours  before surgery “not more than 24 hours “‫.

Instructions after ‪surgery:

‪Zymar eye drops:

Use it directly after surgery every 6 hours for one week‫.

‪Tobradex DROPS:

Every 15 min for two hours directly after surgery, then one drop every two hours in the same day of surgery till time of sleeping.

Next day you will use this eye drops as following:

• One drop in both eyes every 6 hours “4 times” for 5 days.

• Then every 8 hours ” 3 times” for 5 days.

• Then every 12 hours “2 times” for 5 days.

• Then every 24 hours” 1 time” for 5 days.

• Then stop using it.

‪OPTIVE DROPS OR ‪SYSTSNE ULTRA:

Use it every 2 hours for one week , 5 or 6 times daily in the second week and you will be able to use it more when needed. You will use it for 3 – 6 months at least based on doctor’s instructions.

 

Instructions that must be followed after Lasik surgery:

1. Be aware of patient fall while moving after surgery.

2. Avoid eye rubbing strictly for at least six weeks.

3. Using eye makeup is prohibited for 2 weeks.

4. Swimming in pools that includes high percentage of Chlorine is not allowed for at least 6 weeks after surgery.

5. Water diving is not allowed for 8 weeks at least, prevent entering Saunas and steam.

6. You will be able to go back to work on 3rd day after surgery specially if its office work .

7. Traveling by plane or any kind of transportation is allowed at the same day of surgery.

8. Wearing sun glasses in the first days after surgery is highly recommended, and then you can use it only when exposed to sun.

9. Imagining that you can see shades of light around any long distance source of lighting or while driving in dark streets is normal after surgery because of pupil dilation,  and to reduce this condition you can turn on any internal light in your car specially the one above the driver’s chair, this side effects  will disappear after several weeks ,and it might take time for people who  has myopia , or who has extra pupil dilation  in darkness for several months after surgery and then it will disappear slowly.

10. Unclear vision is normal when getting up from sleep during the first week after surgery, and having some vibration in vision until it will become stable after 8-12 weeks post surgery.

11. Be aware of using eye drops and ointments as you were instructed by physician  “time and period” of using the medication, lubrication eye drops should  be used for long period specially in summer and for those who are above 35 years old.

12. You might feel some headache after Lasik or Laser surgery in the first two weeks , and usually because of the sudden changes that happened for the vision after taking off the eye glasses or the lances, it will disappear after several days, few people might face high eye pressure because of the cortisone course, and in both cases you must visit your doctor to inform him about your headache to examine you and make sure that eye pressure is normal.

13. Visiting your physician for at least 3 times in the first 6 months post surgery.

14. After finish the cortisone course ,5 % of people might face redness , if pain in the eye occurs you can take the drops again in a way to be stopped step by step for example on time every two days ,the take it one day and stop it two days until you stop using it.

15. Avoid driving car after surgery because of the blurred vision.

DO and Don’t List for the Patients with Eye Infection

DO!

• Washhands before and after instilling eye medication.
• Use only the drops or ointment prescribed
• Wash the face frequently, especially before installing medication
• Wear sunglasses, if available, to provide comfort
• Eat a healthy diet to aid recovery
• Return to the health center if the eye does not improve
• Destroy medication when the infection clears

DO NOT!

• Do not touch or rub the eyes
• Do not touch the lids or lashes with the dropper or applicator
• Do not share face cloths or towels
• Do not wipe the face with clothing
• Do not cover the eye with a dressing
• Do not go to work or school until the infection clears
• Do not store medication in direct sunlight or within reach of children
• Do not share medication with others
